Sophomore Sara Baker may run for TAPPS 1A Founders Christian, but she’s the future of private school cross country in Greater Houston. That was evident on the VYPE Private School Girls’ Cross Country Runner of the Year poll, when she received 18,820 of the total 48,256 votes.

“It’s such an honor, and it’s just so exciting,” said Baker. “I was not expecting it at all, and I feel so special to have this opportunity.”

Baker battled an injury this fall, but still wrapped up an incredible underclassman run. She recorded four of her eight top-10 finishes, and her second ninth-or-better finish at state. No wonder she has a steady support from her family and school community.

“It means a lot because they don’t have to go out and support me, but they choose to,” Baker said of the support. “My parents and brothers came out to my state meet, and my school supported me through all of it.”
