After a regular season of struggling to stay mentally locked in during games, the Cy Lakes Spartans mental focus was at an all-time high to start the playoffs.
They opened up the playoffs more mentally prepared than ever as they defeated Sam Houston 3-0.
“The guys followed the game plan tonight,” Spartans coach Franklin Cartagena said. “We were able to win balls, maintain possession, and be smart when attacking.”
Part of being smart when attacking had a lot to do with the Spartans playing as a team.
Out of their three goals, two goals came by way of assist and the last goal was drawn up from an out of bounds play.
Marcus Rangel scored the first half goal as it was assisted by Rogelio Lopez.
Alan Lopez scored the second goal that was assisted by Randy Nunez and then the dagger goal came from Brandon Tuch.
“We rose to the occasion and we just have to stay consistent,” Cartagena said about the team’s performance.
